Everyone admitted to your law school has demonstrated  similar intelligence, commitment and effort.   What distinguishes  "A" students is study skills and habits, access to legal information, analytical and test-taking skills.   All these are skills and abilities that can be learned and improved upon. In our more than 35 years of experience, we have seen the impact that intense preparation can have on a student's ability to excel.

The  Summer Boot Camp is an online distance learning program designed to provide that intense preparation.  The Boot Camp will teach students to study effectively for law school, introduce students to the writing, thinking and test-taking skills needed to excel on law school exams, and build a network of academic support that crosses school boundaries.

The participants will work on the study skills, strategies and techniques they will need to achieve their goals as law students.  In particular, the participants will work on:

  • Basic legal vocabulary
  • Reading effectively
  • Case Briefing
  • Pre and Post-class preparation
  • Self-Testing (particularly, use of flashcards, hypos, etc)
  • Memorization
  • Outlining
  • Flowcharting
  • Time Management
  • Stress Management (including "Winning at Learning")
  • What to Do in the Last Month/Last Two Weeks before Exams
  • Taking a law school examination

Participants will begin to develop their issue-spotting, exam-writing  and analytical skills.  These skills are essential to doing well in law school but are rarely explicitly taught.

Finally, at the end of the summer we will interview all students . The focus of the interviews will be on (1) reviewing the student’s strategic plan for the fall semester and assuring that the plan can be implemented and executed; and, (2) helping the student understand how to translate thinking into action.

Fall Program

Persons who participate in the Law School Boot Camp can participate in the Fall Exam-writing Distance Learning Course with no additional charge. The activities of the Fall Program include:

  • continue developing issue-spotting skills;
  • writing organized answers by practicing hypotheticals; and,
  • writing practice exams with written evaluation.

Commitment

The Summer Boot Camp requires that you complete approximately 100 hours of academic work before August 15.   The Fall program requires approximately 2  hours per week for 12 weeks.  There will be between 6-8 practice exams. Each practice exam will take 1 hour. This is the minimum time requirement. All activities will be scheduled at times that will facilitate participation and will not conflict with your academic requirements at your law school.  Given the limited spaces in the program we need individuals who will commit to the program and follow through on those commitments.
